When he bought the 8900 the guy at Radiozing said if he wasn't happy with it after a week or so he could return it for a full refund.

Knowing Mark I can say he is a very critical man. But in relation to the 8900, I think the price will come down as soon as more flood the market and the initial excitement has passed. It's a lot of radio for the money, and £140 - £150 seems a fair price for what you get (from the v3 upwards). But I was pleasantly surprised when I got it home and switched it on. If he hadn't lent me the v4 I would probably have never owned one. I now use a K-PO NM532 on mine with outstanding results. The stock mic is flimsy, but does sound well. Strong signals are received perfectly well with no hint of overload. Power on SSB is variable 20 - 40W which is ample.

The SSB side of things is spot on with excellent receive and TX audio. Which version did you have? I remember the opinion of the v1 was unanimously low, and the v2 only marginally better. I'd rather have a 3900 Dirland with a KF-6 in the van. Otherwise a nice set, but a £100 set at best. And what moron designed a set that you need to pull the lid off to program it? The RIT was mad and mine had a birdie on 28.700. It was sh*t on SSB, anything over +10db overloaded the front end, the power output was fixed so you couldn't use a mid-range amp. Right this is a first to me,so if its not very good my appologise now!Have had the radio for a week now, modulation seems better than my v5 dx 5ooo.When talking to stations on all modes, then flicking to the dx 50 seems to have the slight edge.Recive, seems clearer on ssb on the 8900,but not much in it.If its a mobile set you want, this is for you.The radio is tiny, small thin fingers would be helpful as everything is close, but still easy to use.Yes the signal meter does dance around more than my dx5000.Variable power,it says no in the manual, but it does turn right down. This is good if you want to put your linear on.The 7 different colors it goes will soon do your head in,but the green looks good with the green backlit of the radio.Another difference is the radio did not need programing,i got the radio set on 10m,after pressing 2 buttons the radio opened to 25/28.with programming it will go to 30.Overall its a new radio,it will have its faults.Up to now the only thing i have found wrong is channel 9 on every band says busy when you use the channel.Simon who supplied the radio says this can be sorted with softwear, this is still not in the country but when he gets it will be supplied free as is included in price,£225 inc nex day del.To me it looks and works very well, thanks markĪdmiral wrote:I had an Anytone 5555, same thing, was a cracking FM set, the audio was excellent even on the flimsy hand mic.
